This is a list of organizations that do good work to promote the well-being of regular people. This is not a complete list, just some of them. I am working to build this list (as well as my RECOMMENDED READING list) as a more complete resource of resources. If you have some extra money kicking around you need to give to progressive causes and organizations this is a good place to look. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) “and its over 1 million members nation-wide believe in fighting for bold progressive change. It’s not enough to agree with us on the issues we champion — heroes in Congress and candidates on the campaign trail that we support also believe in fighting for these values.”
The Bill of Rights Defense Committee & Defending Dissent Foundation “protects the right of political expression to strengthen participatory democracy, and to fulfill the promise of the Bill of Rights for everyone.”
MoveOn.org is the largest online progressive organizing group in the United States.
Social Security Works mission is to protect those who depend now or will depend on Social Security. They see Social Security as a vehicle for social justice by alleviating poverty.
ProPublica.org is an independent, non-profit investigative news organization that covers stories with what they call “moral force.” Their mission: “To expose abuses of power and betrayals of the public trust by government, business, and other institutions, using the moral force of investigative journalism to spur reform through the sustained spotlighting of wrongdoing.”
