I heard David Faris on Chapo (episode 214) the other day talking about his new book, It’s Time to Fight Dirty: How Democrats Can Build a Lasting Majority in American Politics. He makes the point that the Republican party has spent the last 40 years building and consolidating their hold on power–so much so that congressional Democrats consistently receive more votes and still lose, when measured nationally. (There were also the two losers who became President.) The Republican party has dismantled voting rights in order to maintain their hold and the corporate interests they represent, and this poses a grave danger to everyone.
Faris argues that nothing should be off the table at this point, as a United States under a couple more Republican administrations could quite easily ensure the devastation of human civilization through our unwillingness to address climate change.
